Mike Butler

Football Scouting and Operations Webinar
Mike Butler has spent 26 years in the NFL working as a Scout for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Indianapolis Colts and the Detroit Lions.  He also worked in various capacities for the Steelers for an additional eight years starting as a ball boy at the age of fifteen.  He was the Director of College Scouting for the Indianapolis Colts from 2000 to 2006 leading up to the Colts Super Bowl XLI victory in the 2006-2007 season.  It has been his great fortune to work and learn from some of the all time greats in the history of professional football, including, Art Rooney Sr., Dan Rooney, Chuck Noll, Art Rooney Jr., Dick Haley, Ted Marchibroda, Bill Tobin, Tony Dungy and Bill Polian.
During his tenure as Director of College Scouting the Colts no team in the NFL won more games or had a higher winning percentage than the Colts did.  During that span the Colts averaged over 10 wins per season and made the playoffs six out of seven seasons.  In his career Mike has helped build teams that made 11 playoff appearances, his teams have won 9 Division Titles, and have gone to 3 AFC Championship games.  Butler has helped discover 33 players that have made a total of 74 Pro Bowl appearances and won 2 NFL Player of the Year awards and 2 Rookie of the Year awards.

 

Throughout a scouting career that has lasted over two and a half decades, he has been involved in drafting some of the greatest names the game has ever seen, including Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison, Edgerrin James, Dwight Freeney, Marshall Faulk, Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark, Bob Sanders, Robert Mathis, Tarik Glenn, Brent Jones, Andre Rison, and Louis Lipps .

 

Working in Sports Management has provided Mike valuable experience in Competitive Intelligence, Leading Teams, Organizational Communication, Business Ethics in Sports, Decision Making and Problem Solving.

 

Mike is a graduate from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and has a Masters in Leadership with a concentration in Sports Leadership from Duquesne University.
