Sports Broadcasting Course (PES 401)

The Sports Broadcasting Course is designed to help individuals gain a better understanding of the sports broadcasting industry.  Students will learn how to call a game play-by-play,  fundamentals of sports talk radio,  how to cut  promos, and host an online sports broadcast.  This course is for anyone interested in a career as a sports broadcaster, sports radio talk show host, sports color analyst, or anyone interested in working in sports media.


In this 8-week course, students will learn about the following:


Fundamentals of Sports Broadcasting
Preparation strategies
Radio Play-by-Play
Television Play-by-Play
Hockey, Golf, Tennis, Soccer, and Olympic Sports
Calling a Baseball game
Sports talk radio 
Interviewing techniques
Making a highlight tape
Creating your own sportscasting program & webcasting

Students will also learn how to utilize technology to produce their own webcast, live audio program through the internet, from any live sports event.  This new technology is extremely inexpensive and it allows to produce a quality product.  In addition, we teach you how to monetize your work by selling advertisements, fundraising, and selling your productions.

David Brody
Sports Broadcasting Course

David Brody is a three-time New Jersey Radio Sportscaster of the Year.  He is the former voice of the Princeton Tigers and has hosted on WIP in Philadelphia and on the Sports Byline Radio Network. David is an award winning sportscaster with over 25 years of on-air and talent coaching experience.  Since 2003, David has coached and represented talent,  including national personalities, Arnie Spanier, John Fricke, Howard David and Rick Ballou.  David  began his sports casting career in 1979.

While attending the U. of Hartford, he worked as a sports and news reporter for the legendary Hartford powerhouse WDRC.  Since graduating in 1983, David has worked as a play-by-play announcer, sports talk-show host, and update anchor in Philadelphia (WIP), Youngstown OH,  Princeton N.J., and for America’s first sports talk show network, Sportsbyline USA.  David was a familiar voice on Sportsbyline from 1993-2003, where he was heard in America’s largest markets, including, Chicago, San Francisco, Boston,  Miami, Detroit, Dallas, Atlanta, Denver, Phoenix and Seattle. David was named the N.J. Radio Sportscaster of the Year in 1990, ’91, and  ’92 for his work as the play-by-play voice of the Princeton University basketball and football teams. David has also freelanced as a pre-game studio host for the Oakland Raiders, Oakland A’s, and Philadelphia 76ers.

David taught sports broadcasting at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Georgia.
